As military families, we are always preparing for something. Deployment, training, moving... you name it!

As I sit here this morning thinking about the very short time we have left of summer, my mind wonders and thinks about what will await us this new school year. How will we prepare for this new school year?

Whether you are a military spouse like me sending her kid off into the world or are preparing to go back to school yourself, or maybe both... positive thinking should be something that strives to be number one on our minds.

What you say to yourself is called self-talk. Controlling your self-talk is a very important part of living successfully AND achieving your goals.

Your subconscious believes what you tell it. In other words, what you say to yourself is your reality.

When you call yourself lazy or stupid, your subconscious thinks it must be true. Productivity and functioning suffer.

Replacing negative self-talk with positive self-talk allows your subconscious to be supportive of you and your intentions.

Replace negative thoughts with positive ones.

Think about what you are doing and what you want to do…

Why is it that some days our ideas blossom while other days we just sit at our desks and let our minds wander?

Some days we want to get moving. Other days we are antsy and can’t focus.

When we think of what we are thinking and what we are actually doing, it is as if we are only capable of using one mindset at a time.

Being able to manage our mindset will help us to optimize our thinking while trying to be creative. But how can we manage our mindset?

Don't let the start of a new week drag you down! How we start the week will set the tone for how you end it.

Let's start a new motto, very similar to the one we say when it is Friday, you know... "Thank Goodness it's Friday" (TGIF). Instead ours will be, Thank Goodness it's Monday!

Positive thinking helps with stress management and can give you the push you need to get motivated. Practice overcoming negative self-talk like, "Oh man, tomorrow is Monday", instead say "Tomorrow is Monday, I'm going to rock this week!"
